The chapter in Monroe, Lousiania was established in connection with the implementation of the DREAMS intervention model research by Fr. Lijo Thomas in July 2011 at University of Louisiana. The co-founder of this chapter, Ms. Mariebeth Holzer had played a vital role in designing the program. The program was redesigned especially adding more games and activities to make it more fun after a lot of discussions with Ms. Mariebeth Holzer. Later a few other volunteers like Mr. Angie Opry, Ms. Janet Breard, Fr Job Scaria CMI and a few other community volunteers joined the team. The first youth leader to join the team was Ms. Kaici Gordon.

In 2012 Ms. Maribeth Holzer further introduced the program with the leadership of Ouachita School System and later it was welcomed by the system and introduced to Ouachita Junior High School, Monroe for the betterment of under-performing middle school students. The pilot study and another longitudinal study showed that there were significant improvements in self-esteem, self-mastery, motivation, locus of control, life-orientation and engagement, academic achievements, and personal and interpersonal behavior of those who participated in the DREAMS program.

The Monroe DREAMS Chapter serves an average of 33 students with the help of around 12 youth mentors and around 10 adult community volunteers every year. Ms. Kristy Cob is the school representative of the chapter.

The DREAMS Band in Monroe, LA strives towards making a positive difference in the community by utilizing their musical skills with the help of local senior and youth musicians. The Monroe DREAMS Band began its journey by the end of the year 2010 to enhance the self-confidence of children and youth through musical pursuits. A few musicians from the local  community had begun to give free lessons on piano, guitar, and drums to the children and youth, every Sunday afternoon at Catholic Campus Ministry at University of Louisiana Monroe. Mr. Lamar Trichelle played a very significant role through his constant commitment to the band along with Mr. Gary Guiniguindo and Kody Chase. Ms. Sheila Martin and Ms. Maribeth Holzer were instrumental in organizing events/concerts and coordinating the parents of the students to make the band completely managed by the local community and parents.

The band had conducted several concerts and musical events in and outside of Louisiana state. The band performed Christmas Canticles for Shalom, a global TV network in the year 2015. Later in 2016 the band published its first educational music album the Math Music to teach kids mathematics equations through music based on the concept/lyrics of Ms. Maribeth Holzer. The band has always supported the Monroe DREAMS Camps with their musical interventions at every summer camp.

So far more than around 135 children have gone through this band and built their musical, psycho-social and leadership skills for their future life and it continues its success service journey. Presently, the leadership of the band is vested with Mr. Carlos Tenorio (Music Director), Ms. Sheela Martin (Parents’ Co-ordinator), Mr. Abraham Arun (Manager) and Ms. Liza Barkely (Band Lead)
